  Jimtown Fresh

The Jimtown Store is nestled in the vineyards of the Alexander Valley; one of Sonoma County’s premium wine growing regions, just 75 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge. It has been a landmark since 1893, when Jim Patrick opened his general store, post office and meeting place for residents of the valley.

In 1989 former Silver Palate partner, John Werner and his wife, artist Carrie Brown, discovered this spot while visiting from New York City. Soon after learning it was for sale, the couple bought Jimtown Store. “We immediately set out to return the abandoned landmark to its former glory,” Carrie recalls, “and, of course, add a few twists of our own.”

Carrie and her late husband John fashioned Jimtown into a celebration of Americana. Publications including USA Today, The New York Times, Food & Wine, Better Homes and Gardens, and Country Home have written enthusiastically about this culinary oasis tucked away in a small corner of the Alexander Valley. Jimtown was featured in an Emmy award winning Martha Stewart Living segment in November 2003 along with other Sonoma County specialty food purveyors.

Those in the know arrive anxious for Jimtown’s hearty, well-prepared food, fresh spreads, and wines from top Sonoma County vintners. The store also stocks a whimsical array of old fashioned, candy, toys, and housewares, including oilcloth and spatterware enamel dishes, antiques, and folk art the Brown family has collected over many years of traveling the United States and beyond.

With a diverse menu featuring fresh local produce, meats and cheeses, weekly specials, and plenty of vegetarian options, Jimtown Store is a favorite lunch stop for neighbors and tourists alike, who enjoy a local glass of wine on the vine covered patio with a Jimtown signature sandwich.

Jimtown's fresh condiments - Original Chopped Olive, Spicy Olive, Fig & Olive and Artichoke, Olive & Caper Spread - were originally created for signature sandwiches made at the store. They also make easy, instant hors d’oeuvres, and are perfect partners to cheeses. Featured in the Jimtown Store Cookbook, the spreads are simple to use as marinades or condiments for meat, poultry, and fish, and they are great in pasta dishes, on pizza, in vinaigrettes and in salads.

Along with fresh condiments, Jimtown has a large selection of housemade foods that are only available in the store. Spiced nuts, chutneys, jams, cookies, and chocolate pudding are just a hint of the delicious goodies at Jimtown Store.

Jimtown is a destination and a true community store. Customers have been known to drive miles out of their way to savor “The Jimtown,” a sandwich of ripe Brie, Jimtown Chopped Olive condiment and baby greens on a baguette. Carrie smilingly offers her welcome, “We love to have our Alexander Valley neighbors and visitors stop in for a little nostalgia, savory good food, and a large helping of the ‘Zip, Zest, and Zeal’ that Jimtown has to share.”
