The Lundberg family has strong roots in the California soil. In 1937 Albert and Frances Lundberg moved to the Sacramento Valley of Northern California from Nebraska. During the Great Depression, Albert had seen the ravages of the Dustbowl that resulted from poor soil management and shortsighted farming techniques. He was determined to pass on to his four boys a legacy of nurturing the land.
Albert Lundberg was a farmer ahead of his time. In 1937 most folks didn’t give much thought to organic farming, but he decided to take a new approach, treating the land and the wildlife that live on it with respect. The family became pioneers in growing organic rice in America.
In the 1960's, the Lundberg sons, Eldon, Wendell, Harlan and Homer, continued this tradition and took it a step further by packaging the rice themselves and selling it directly under the family name. They founded the Lundberg Family Farms brand, giving consumers an organic choice in the rice they purchased.
Lundberg Family Farms is still a family-owned and operated business that is committed to growing rice using ecologically responsible farming methods. By maintaining control over all aspects of bringing their rice products from the field to the table, they can guarantee their purity.
In keeping with their beliefs in sustainability, they have encouraged their children to be active in the business, and have turned over most of the day-to-day operations to them.
“For over 65 years, starting with our father, Lundberg Family Farms has been using methods of farming that care for the soil, wildlife, air and water,” Eldon explains. “This special concern for the environment is equaled only by our concern for product quality. When consumers purchase our organic rice, they are supporting a way of farming that enhances the environment and provides the highest quality brown rice and brown rice products. We’re proud to send it from our family to theirs.”
