Chicken, Beef, and Turkey broth
Each pouch of concentrate can make a cup of broth when combined with water, but there are many other possible combinations and additions, for instance, adding wine, butter or herbs. Also, the concentrate can be directly injected into meat to add flavor and moisture.

After college Doug Takizawa went into the family business, exporting American fruits, vegetables, and nuts, primarily to Japan and Taiwan. “The way my father has conducted our business provided a foundation for our new venture. He has always focused on long-term relationships both with suppliers in the United States and with buyers in Asia. This gave our company a stable platform from which to launch Savory Creations.”

The Takizawas were introduced to the idea for a concentrated chicken broth. There were many challenges along the way, but these challenges were what interested Doug. One step in the product’s development that was very important to him was to make a “clean label” product. Asked what the term means, Doug explains, “ ‘Clean label’ means that our products are made from natural ingredients with no synthetic or chemical additives that could be associated with negative health issues.”

Another challenge was packaging. Chicken broth is negatively affected by the canning process and canning materials. So Savory Creations looked to the space program for the special packaging film to make a pouch that protects the integrity of the product. The pouch is strong, resistant to oxygen and heat and does not react with the concentrate, in addition to being greener, resulting in less waste.

The first market for Savory Creations broths was food service. Doug decided to use the same bag-in-a-box technique used for wine. “It’s super convenient, stays fresh, and is available whenever they need it and exactly as much as they need. There’s no waste.”

For chefs who have been using “base,” the taste of Savory Creations broths are a revelation. And when they discover how easy they are to use and that there is no waste, there are many converts. “Our broths have been chef tested, approved and used.”

At food service shows, there was so much interest that the company decided to enter the retail market and introduced Savory Choice Liquid Broth Concentrates, chicken, beef or turkey. The concentrate is packed in handy small pouches, that each makes a cup of broth.

Doug describes the goal of Savory Creations: “We make a product that is so quick and easy, that a nutritious, tasty meal can be made as quickly as driving to pick up fast food. We’re bringing restaurant quality food to the consumer. It will remind them of what chicken really tastes like, what it used to taste like when their mother or grandmother made it.”
